Zetterberg's strong start earns weekly award

Henrik ZetterbergNEW YORK – Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg was named to the NHL's 'Three Stars' for the week ending October 14. Zetterberg was named the No. 3 Star, following Carolina's Cam Ward (No. 1 Star) and Buffalo's Bryan Campbell (No. 2 Star).

Zetterberg was the only player during the 2006-07 season to earn back-to-back No. 1 Star recognition for his efforts betweek February 5-18. He was also named the player of the month for February, scoring 13 of his 33 regular-season goals.

THIRD STAR – HENRIK ZETTERBERG, F, DETROIT RED WINGS
Zetterberg tied for the league lead among scorers for the week with seven points (3-4--7) as the Red Wings posted three wins in four games. He began the week with two assists in a 4-2 win over Edmonton on Oct. 8 and followed that with one goal in a 4-2 victory over Calgary on Oct. 10. Two days later, he scored a goal in a 3-2 loss to Chicago and finished the week with one goal and two assists in a 4-1 victory over Los Angeles on Oct. 14. Zetterberg leads all NHL scorers with 12 points (4-8--12) in six games.

FIRST STAR – CAM WARD, G, CAROLINA HURRICANES
Ward posted a 3-0-0 record, 1.67 goals-against average and .939 save percentage as the Hurricanes won three consecutive road games. On Oct. 9, Ward made 27 saves as Carolina recorded a 7-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Two nights later, he recorded 27 saves in a 5-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators and on Oct. 13, Ward made 23 saves as Carolina defeated the Montreal Canadiens, 3-1. In five appearances this season, Ward is 4-0-1 with a 1.79 goals-against average and .942 save percentage.

SECOND STAR – BRYAN CAMPBELL, D, BUFFALO SABRES
Campbell tallied seven points (1-6--7) as the Sabres won both their games. On Oct. 11, he recorded one goal and two assists as Buffalo defeated the Atlanta Thrashers, 6-0. He followed that with four assists on Oct. 13 as the Sabres defeated the Washington Capitals, 7-3. Campbell leads all NHL defensemen in scoring with nine points (1-8--9) in four games.
